When renunciation brings profit

Sometimes it only takes a small impulse to make a big difference – be it in everyday life or through joint commitment. This is exactly what we achieved with our fundraising campaign for the Förderverein zur Unterstützung der Onkologischen Abteilung der Kinderklinik Karlsruhe e.V. (FUOKK). At the beginning of the year, we were able to hand over an oversized cheque for €7,600 together with our team at virtual7 . This sum helps to provide children with cancer and their families with the best possible support. A success could hardly be greater.

Why did we do this?

Our support was more than just a monetary donation. It was a way to bring a smile, give hope and pave the way for a better future. It was about giving as well as receiving at Christmas time. And that’s exactly what we did. As part of the Year of Values, we wanted to do more than just talk about our principles – we wanted to live them. Our values challenge us to put our words into action (remember “Shape Ahead”) and make a lasting impact. The fact that we were able to do this together with the FUOKK makes us proud. Because every single person who took part in this campaign has made a real difference.

How did the campaign work?

In the last quarter of 2024, inspired by the value “Live The Spirit”, we called on our team to present their “heart projects” worthy of support. As diverse as our team is, the proposed projects were just as varied: from helping the homeless to helping cats in Croatia and the German Depression League. All of these projects deserved support – but in the end, a decision had to be made. We held a completely democratic internal vote, and the FUOKK received the most votes. In doing so, we chose a local project from Karlsruhe and showed how important our local social responsibility is to us.

A joint success

However, the amount of the donation was not a matter of course: it was made up of the Christmas presents our German employees gave up. 76 colleagues decided to donate the value of their Christmas presents – a total of €3,800 – to the FUOKK. Impressive proof of the team spirit and generosity at virtual7. But that wasn’t all: our management doubled this amount – a sign of their support and belief in the project. The highlight of the campaign was the handover of the cheque for €7,600 last Friday. A big thank you to everyone who was part of this wonderful campaign!

A year full of values

The Year of Values was our impetus not only to live our principles, but also to make them tangible. Our fundraising campaign shows how strong a team can be when everyone pulls together. It’s about more than financial help: it’s about giving hope, enabling change and making a real difference.

Small impulses with a big impact

Whether it’s a fundraising campaign, a smile or a few hours of volunteering – small acts can trigger a chain reaction of positive change. Our campaign was an example of how a small impulse can make a big difference. Let’s continue to initiate such small changes – for a better future where every contribution counts.
