The uncomfortable truth about change

Imagine this: You enter your office in a German government agency, equipped with your favorite coffee, ready to face the challenges of the day. The smell of coffee lifts your spirits and you know that today is going to be a good day. No sooner have you opened your laptop than you get the message: “We’re switching the system to new software.” Suddenly your mood is gone, your heart beats faster and as you take a step back, you stub your toe on – of course – the fax machine. That’s right, that clunky box that’s been sitting in the corner for years, reminding you time and time again that change can be painful

Why change is so difficult

Change is difficult! It often means saying goodbye to the familiar. The old software, the fax machine, the familiar workflow – all these things give us a sense of security, even if they are no longer up to date. Most people would prefer to leave everything as it is, because change takes us out of our comfort zone. But in IT and public administration, we at virtual7 can’t avoid it – after all, we are committed to the digitalization of Germany.

No progress without change

Presumably many people would like to flee when they hear the word “change” and secretly wish that everything would stay as it is. We smile at virtual7 because we experience what it’s like when something changes all the time. We know that change is the key to improvement, even if it may seem uncomfortable at first. Whether it’s switching to new software or saying goodbye to old ways of working, change is simply part of the process. This brings us to the unpleasant truth: without the courage to change something, the administration remains at a standstill and digitalization remains a plan written down on paper but never fulfilled.

Change requires readiness

Successful change requires one thing: the willingness to change. At virtual7, we know that the path to digitalized, efficient administration is not without its stumbling blocks, whether it’s the fax machine or the habit of clinging to the tried and tested. We don’t just want to accompany this change, we want to actively shape it. Without the willingness to tackle change, even the best IT project will remain just another digitized application.
In public administration in particular, it is the foundation on which a modern and efficient way of working is built, which in the best case scenario will lead to the digitalization of Germany.

Willingness to change and Shape Ahead

At virtual7, we know that the path to digitized, efficient administration is not without its stumbling blocks. We’re not coming and pulling the plug on all fax machines, but we are confronting deep-rooted habits of clinging to the tried and tested. Our corporate value Shape Ahead stands for all of this. For us, this means not just reacting to change, but actively helping to shape it. Because one thing is clear: without change, even the best IT project remains just another digitized application that is printed out and passed on to the next department with the old box.
