Extraordinary times require extraordinary measures.

These days, it is not only difficult to get hold of toilet paper in the supermarket, but for some of us it is also difficult to ensure childcare alongside our jobs. Many families are facing an enormous challenge due to the closure of daycare centers and schools and are unable to reconcile childcare and work. Many companies are trying to enable their employees to work from home, but let’s be honest: who can concentrate on their work at home when 1, 2 or 3 children are jumping around and not just painting the walls in the living room? For families who have no immediate family or close friends in the immediate vicinity, there is often only one solution: reduce overtime, take vacation or, in the worst case, take unpaid leave without continued pay. If unpaid leave is granted, this means that vacation entitlement is reduced, Christmas bonuses and vacation pay are cut and you also have to pay social security contributions and health insurance yourself.

What can an employer do?

To alleviate this situation, virtual7 has launched a short-term support program for families. Each virtual7 employee receives €100 gross per day on which their partner stays at home due to childcare and has to take unpaid leave. In total, virtual7 is making €30,000 available to its employees as a special payment for the period of the planned daycare and school closures.

Social responsibility and understanding for families.

“Even in times of crisis, we stand for continuity and stability and are naturally happy to pass this on to our employees and their families. Many of our employees have young families and certainly also other existential obligations, so some are dependent on two salaries. With our program, we want to provide some peace of mind in these turbulent times and at least support our employees financially,” says Marcus Weiss, Managing Director of virtual7 GmbH.

In a nutshell.

At virtual7, working from home, flexible working hours, overtime arrangements and paid travel time have long been part of everyday life. To give employees the greatest possible flexibility outside of the project business. In times of the coronavirus pandemic, however, this is not enough to manage family and professional life. With the budget of €30,000, virtual7 wants to make it easier for its employees to balance childcare and work. This is intended to mitigate the financial losses of those on unpaid leave.
