A partnership for the digitalization of tax administration in Germany

Karlsruhe, 27 June 2024: virtual7 GmbH, a leading company in the field of IT services, has once again proven itself to be an important partner in the digitalization of public administration in Germany. In close cooperation with the computer center of the financial administration (RZF) of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, virtual7 provides significant support for automation and increased efficiency in the area of tax administration.

Automation of control processes

virtual7 plays a key role in the further development of digital tax administration. Since 2016, the company has been working closely with the RZF to drive forward the automation of tax processes. This collaboration aims to increase the efficiency of the tax administration and offer citizens a faster and smoother service. A central aspect of this collaboration is the introduction and optimization of systems for the automatic processing and approval of tax returns. By analyzing and evaluating tax data, unproblematic cases can be processed quickly and without manual intervention. This leads to a significant acceleration of processes and improved service quality for citizens.

Technology and trust: The use of data analytics and AI

To achieve these goals, virtual7 relies on data analysis and artificial intelligence (AI). This makes it possible to precisely evaluate tax returns and identify suspicious patterns, which minimizes the risk of tax fraud. Care is always taken to ensure that data protection and data security have the highest priority.

Looking to the future: more than just taxes

The successful implementation of automation in tax administration opens up further exciting prospects for digitalization in Germany. For example, the existing infrastructure could be used for projects such as basic child protection, which automatically pays out financial aid to eligible families. This demonstrates the immense potential of digitalization, which goes far beyond tax administration.

virtual7 and the challenge of federalism

Despite the progress made, there are still challenges, particularly with regard to federalism. Cooperation between the federal states and the harmonization of digital processes are essential in order to achieve the full impact of digitalization. virtual7 is continuously working on overcoming these challenges and developing solutions that improve cooperation between the various administrative units.

The history of Elster

Since 1996, Germany has been pursuing the goal of efficiently processing tax returns and tax registrations via the Internet with the “Elster” (electronic tax return) project. This project, which is part of KONSENS (Coordinated New Software Development of the Tax Administration), has fundamentally changed and modernized the tax system in recent decades. What once began as an ambitious project has now developed into an indispensable tool for millions of citizens who can handle their tax affairs conveniently and paperlessly from home.
