Donation to Karlsruher Verein für Jugendhilfe e.V.

(Karlsruhe, ) Digitalization is shaping our everyday lives at all levels, and it is also changing the way we teach in schools in the long term. In the future, students and teachers will benefit from the new way of teaching and can contribute to the professional future of the young people who are cared for by the Verein für Jugendhilfe Karlsruhe e.V.. A long-time donor, provides the hardware costs for 16 tablets. With the financial means provided, virtual7 GmbH was able to assist in purchasing the necessary equipment. The urgency became clear with the outbreak of the Corona pandemic, which turned normal school operations upside down and presented teachers with difficult challenges regarding the implementation of future lessons. This gave rise to the collaboration with virtual7. The company bears the costs for software licenses of the complete solution Microsoft Teams for Education, which enables modern work in the form of a digital classroom.

Among other things, the Verein für Jugendhilfe Karlsruhe e.V. supports young people in special social situations in a variety of projects and offers in the city and district of Karlsruhe. Among other things, the association accompanies young people in their preparation for an external secondary school leaving certificate. Like many classes, the teachers had to adjust to the challenges and changes in school teaching due to the Corona pandemic. A training of the teaching staff was realized by an independent project of an employee of virtual7 GmbH. The introduction to the provided program, enabled a quick implementation of the new way of working and the introduction of digital teaching.

In personal conversations with students and teachers, it became clear that the introduction of the tablets created added value. Lessons can continue in line with the curriculum in the event of another lockdown. Not every student had previously had the opportunity to participate in lessons from home. For this reason, during the first lockdown, lessons were primarily structured around handing out and editing worksheets, which required a lot of resources and often presented challenges. In addition to flexibility and the opportunity to work on various topics independently, the digital design of the lessons offers more variety in the school day overall.

It is clear that some students have previously used the Internet primarily in their free time. The teachers see an opportunity to prepare the students for their future careers by teaching them how to use computers.

In the future, too, it is planned to supplement lessons with the use of tablets and thus to make the young people’s school day as varied as possible.
